OVERVIEW

At Wainwright Direct we work with some of the industry’s premier companies in the supply and delivery of aggregates. With brand names such as; Aggregate Industries, Ashville Aggregates, Brett Aggregates, Day Group, GRS Roadstone, S Walsh, Hanson, J & R Haulage, J Mould, Mick George, SRC Group and Top Hire, we’ve got literally everything covered.

From The Ground Up

So, let’s start with some of the basics. In the most part aggregates are used in groundworks and landscaping contracts. In fact, often, the very same material suppliers that deliver your aggregates are able to collect any muck-aways. This not only keeps the costs down, it’s also operationally beneficial and aiding project flow.

When you’re ‘in the ground’, it’s likely you’ll be using Shingles, MOT type 1, Scalpings and different types of structural stone for soak-aways. MOT Type 1 (commonly known as Hardcore), is formed from crushed carboniferous limestone, and is usually placed under paving slabs, driveways and patios. Similarly, there are Reject Stones which is usually large fragments of flint.

With so many different grades of aggregates available, there are also more familiar aggregates, such as; soft sand, ballast, ‘recycled type 1’ materials and ‘primary type 1’ materials, which are becoming more widespread on construction works.

Ballast itself is a mixture of sharp sand and small stones or gravel, which is used to form concrete for a range of landscaping solutions.

Another popular aggregate is hot or cold Tarmac base. 20mm base and then a 6mm topping which is rolled and secured. Once again, drainage plays a big part of any tarmac solutions.
